Results from 2015

Friday May 8th dawned dull and overcast and really didn’t improve all day, but it didn’t rain and the weather was ideal for shooting. By 7.45am the first of 140 competitors had arrived at The Acorn Shoot on the Compton Manor Estate. Having consumed copious quantities of bacon baps shooting began at 9.15 am and the 35 teams  began their morning of fun shooting up to a 130 clays from six single stands and a two and four man flush  testing shooting skills to the extreme and which is probably the most fun. There was also the opportunity to shoot at one of two pool shoot stands with one being dedicated to novices.

The teams were a mixture of complete novices and very experienced shots, one being the 2014 FITASC World Champion Ed Solomons. There were three all Ladies teams with more ladies mixed in with other teams proving that this is not now the male dominated sport it once was. Both the Male and Ladies Top Gun award were won by local entries - Phillip Walford , the river keeper on the Compton Estate with a score of 113 taking the Male trophy and our very own Judith (Jude) Evans, from The Crown, with a score of 71 taking the Ladies trophy. Phillip Parker retained his Side by Side Top Gun award with a score of 95. The Top Male team award went to The Ramblers from Chandlers Ford with a score of 495 and All Girls team from Sparsholt retained the Ladies team prize with a score of 287.The Pool shoot was won by Trevor Bell, the 2014 Top Gun winner, who shot with The Ramblers, with a score of 7/10. All the Trophy winners and team scores are now available on this web site.

During the morning raffle tickets were sold for a selection of 40 prizes all donated by local individuals, local and national businesses and a very special separate raffle for a beautiful pair of daisy shaped diamond and 18ct gold earrings valued at £1300 donated by Susannah Lovis of Burlington Arcade, London SW1.

A magnificent lunch prepared by a team of ladies from the Winchester branch of Cancer Research UK was served in the huge marquee, during which we were joined by our victorious M P Caroline Nokes. After lunch the trophies were presented by Amber Hill who is the current ladies UK Champion, joint holder of the Ladies world record and in training for a place in the UK team at the Rio Olympics.

Following the prize giving the charity auction of 15 lots all of which had again been very generously donated by local individuals, local and national businesses was held. This and the raffle contributed to the total amount raised on the day of £20100 which will be shared between Cancer Research UK and the Village Hall Redevelopment Fund. The total we have now raised at the Shoot since it started in 2009 is a magnificent £102,000p.

We already have entries and auction lots promised for next years’ shoot which will be held on 6th May again at the Acorn Shoot.
